Wednesday, July 9, 2008

Tilted Mill yesterday re-released the enhanced edition of Children of the Nile. This new edition can be bought for $19.99 on Steam, but if you still have the original version, you don’t need to buy the enhanced edition: Tilted Mill will release a patch for the ‘2004’ version soon.

Some of the new features in the enhanced edition:

  • Added Brickyard (new infrastructure building that can store bricks closer to construction sites)
  • New statues (2 small, 2 large and 1 brick)
  • 3 new fountains and 2 new shrubberies
  • 4 new plazas
  • 2 new shrine variants

Enhancements to CotN on the way

Thursday, May 29, 2008

It’s been a while… last month, Tilted Mill reinstated the official Children of the Nile site, and yesterday they announced that Children of the Nile will be enhanced with more content:

Tilted Mill is humbled by, and grateful for, the feedback we have gotten from our fans on this site and other venues, and therefore we’d like to share some exciting news with you.

The studio is currently in the process of enhancing the original CotN game for re-release very soon, and these enhancements will of course be made available to existing players free of charge. We don’t want to overstate the scope of these enhancements – at this stage we are primarily focused on improving accessibility, and feedback issues, but a few new buildings / decorations have also been included (such as the ‘Brickyard,’ which allows you to quickly and easily place large amounts of bricks near construction sites, greatly accelerating the speed with which you can build your city).

Be sure to keep an eye out for more news about this, and post your comments to this thread in the Tilted Mill forum.

First Modification!

Wednesday, April 6, 2005

wolfie has submitted the first modification for Children of the Nile. It makes a part of the interface transparent and as simple as it may sound, it’s actually a very pleasant change! If you click on the small example below, you will see a full screenshot. Notice how the townhouse can be seen under the interface.

As with all modifications, it is advised to make back ups of the files you are going to change. It’s easiest to copy the whole backgrounds folder once. The exact location of the map is: Children of the Nile\\data\\Graphics\\interface\\backgrounds

Get the modification here.

Modifying Children of the Nile

Friday, March 18, 2005

Tilted Mill has put together a little tutorial about modifying Children of the Nile. The tutorial gives information about little things like increasing the game speed, but it also explains how to change textures and sounds.

Mods have increased the enjoyment for many people, playing a wide variety of games, ranging from first person shooters such as Half Life, to turn based strategy games like Civilization III. It will be interesting to see if talented people can come up with new additions to CotN.

Reminder on the contest

Tuesday, March 01, 2005

A month ago, we posted this:

It took eighteen years to build…
…so Tilted Mill and Sega offer eighteen Children of the Nile t-shirts up for grabs, nine of these will be available for contestants from the US and Canada who have been playing for a while now, and another nine for those who just got the game.

The rules are simple.
We want you to play Men-nefer and see how quickly you can build that Great Pyramid. Time is the only thing that counts, so time is all you need to concentrate upon. You have one month, i.e. till March 4th, to give this your best shot.

The difficulty you can chose freely, but we won’t differentiate between hard or normal, so you probably want to pick the latter.

We will open up an additional section in the Downloads where you can upload your best attempt. Here you will be able to chose which region you are competing in (US/Canada or The World). Make sure you pick the right region because picking the wrong one will get you disqualified.

We’ll keep this section hidden so you won’t have to worry about other people seeing what you did, just like we do in other contests.

Who is eligible?
Well, basically everybody is eligible to compete. However, we feel that people from the rest of the world who already got the US version of the game (and thus havebeen playing longer) should participate in the US/Canada group.

What else?
Not much more than wishing you happy building!

It’s March already, and you have only three more days to submit your entry for our Children of the Nile contest. Submit your entry to our Downloads, and make sure to select “Men-Nefer competition entry” from the drop-down box at the bottom of the page.
